E-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly working on a messaging app called Anytime which the company will launch later this year.
Messaging apps are the most downloaded items on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, with many of them now have millions of users. With Anytime, Amazon aims to grab a pie of that action.
As of now it’s still unclear as to what the product will look like, however, the company has started conducting survey to its customers, about the features the app might have.
According to a report in AFTV News Anytime appears to be “an all-in-one feature rich service that could even rival social networks,” with a focus on messaging, voice and video calls, and photo sharing, with users able to apply filters to pictures and videos, @mention other users, use sticker and Gifs, and play games. Users would be able to call (audio and video) other individuals or groups, contact businesses to order products or make reservations. According to the images taken from the survey, the service be secure and encrypted, and would work on a variety of desktop and mobile devices.
Anytime will also let you to contact all your friends by just typing their name without the need of phone numbers. What this means exactly is not clear, but we think the app will work in conjunction with the existing social networks and other messaging services.
The retail giant has already entered the messaging and communications market and has recently launched Chime. Amazon Chime is a communications service designed to transforms online meetings with a secure, easy-to-use application. The app works on both Android and iOs platforms and goes head to head with Skype for Business.
The company has also added messaging and voice calling features to its Alexa-equipped devices.
