After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update, Apple responded on the thread of Darus 214.

Days after Apple’s iPhone X went on sale, users have been reporting issues when at times the device does not functions properly. First it was with Face ID and a Reddit user named Darus 214 has noticed a new issue wherein iPhone X screen becomes very unresponsive in cold weather conditions.

Apple today confirmed that it’s planning a software update to address the issue.

We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment. After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update, Apple responded on the thread of Darus 214.

While some users have said that the freezing of screen might be due to the drastic changes in light and others are saying it might be due to iPhone X’s use of a front-facing infrared camera and ambient light sensor for Face ID authentication and TrueDepth photography features.

It’s still unclear as to why the issue has come up, however, Apple has said “use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures.”
