Users need to upgrade to 7.12.19 (Android N) first before they can upgrade to 7.12.29 (Android O).

Xiaomi has started New Year for its users in style as the company has begun rolling out Android Oreo update for Mi A1. The smartphone was launched in collaboration with Google, and Mi A1 is the first device to run on the evolved Android One programme.

‘The wait is over, Android O 7.12.29 for Xiaomi Mi A1 has started rolling out. From now on, many of you should be able to progressively receive the update over-the-air (OTA) on your phones,’ Xaiomi said in a blog post.

As the update is rolled out in batches, it’s that you mightn’t have received it yet, but Xiaomi promises to push the update to all Mi A1 users soon. But, users first need to upgrade to 7.12.19 (Android N) before they can upgrade to 7.12.29 (Android O).

Android 8.0 Oreo operating system brings a ton of great features such as picture-in-picture, autofill, integrated Instant Apps, Google Play Protect and faster boot time.

The Mi A1 sports a dual camera configuration with wide angle and telephoto lenses similar to Mi 6. The two lenses work in tandem creating a depth-of-field effect or what we normally call bokeh effect. In addition, the company has upgraded Beautify mode that makes selfies look more natural and now works with both 5MP front camera and 12MP dual rear camera. Mi A1 supports 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.

Apart from dual camera setup, another USP of the device is its software which runs stock Android and not the MIUI interface and is part of Android One programme.

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor that strikes a fair balance between performance and battery as we have seen in earlier smartphones. The phone houses 3,080mAh battery that is charged via USB-C, unlike Xiaomi’s other affordable smartphones that pack micro-USB port. Mi A1 offers free unlimited high quality storage from Google Photos.

At the launch event back in September, Xiaomi also announced that Mi A1 will be ‘one of the first’ phones to get Android P – something unheard-of now – later this year.
