Taking name cues from Reliance Jio’s “India ka Smartphone,” China’s Xiaomi is all set to launch an all new “Desh ka Smartphone” in the country at an event scheduled for November 30.

With the new device, Xiaomi aims to target wallet-friendly users and the phone will be available exclusively on Flipkart. According to rumour mills, we believe the phone is likely to be Redmi 5A, which is already been available in China.

Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the Redmi 5A for the Indian market, but specifications of the device are already on the internet. The Redmi 5A sells for Chinese Yuan 599 (approx. Rs 6,000) and comes with 3,000mAh battery, which the company claims will offer eight days of usage.

The smartphone features a 5-inch 720p HD display, Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card support (up to 128GB), and a hybrid SIM slot. The device sports a 13MP rear-facing camera and 5MP front-facing shooter and runs on MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat.

According to a report by IDC, Xiaomi now leads the smartphone market in major 50 cities of India, registering 120 per cent growth in the third quarter of 2017 (Q3 2017).

Redmi Note 4 alone contributed to more than 40 per cent of the volumes and is also the highest selling model within the top 50 cities of India. Offline expansion through ‘Preferred Partner’ programmes and Mi Stores, further added to this growth.

Metro cities remain the major contributors to the smartphone sales in India, with Delhi and Mumbai contributing one-fourth of the total sales in top 50 cities.
