Samsung brings back phablets with the introduction of the versatile Galaxy C9 Note Pro. Will it be a trendsetter among the millennials?
Trends are quite confusing. Once a product has lived out its product life cycle and has become outdated, it’s tossed away, but then, a couple of years later that same outdated product might make a resurgence. For example, when cell phones first came out they were big in size, very big in fact. Then, because of practicality and technology they became very small. The trend for the last decade or so was to try and fit in as much tech into the smallest frame possible, but more recently bigger sized phones are making a comeback. Case in point is the new Samsung Galaxy C9 Note Pro.
These new larger phones have been dubbed ‘phablets’ – a cross between a tablet and a phone. The reason these bigger phones are making a comeback is because the features and the uses of a phone have changed over time. For me, I use my phone hardly ever as an actual phone. I spend more time surfing the web, being a social media addict, watching videos and taking pictures. So the rather large 6-inch full-HD display on the C9 Note Pro was something I actually enjoyed. The resolution of the touchscreen display is 1080x1920, and the overall picture quality is really good. I also have big hands, so I enjoyed typing and texting a whole lot more.
The phone weighs about 189g, and it does feel heavy because of its size, and using just one hand to operate the phone and swipe and scroll can be a problem – it was for me even with my big hands. But on the whole the phone feels nice in your hands and it does look premium.
The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is powered by 1.44GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor and it comes with 6GB of RAM – the most on any Samsung phone. Running the phone with multiple apps open doesn’t hinder the performance at all, and I could multitask smoothly with almost everything running on. The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro runs Android 6.0 and the OS is user friendly, especially if you are already an Android fan. In terms of processing power the phone works brilliantly and never once did I find any problems.
The phone also packs 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card, so I could take all the pictures I wanted and store whatever else I needed like movies, music and a few work documents. As far as the camera is concerned, the Galaxy C9 Pro comes with a very nice 16-megapixel primary camera on the rear, and if you are self-obsessed like everyone else, it also has a terrific 16-megapixel front shooter for selfies. There are plenty of great features for the camera and if you are a pro, you will get amazing results.
Because of the phone’s big size it can also store a large 4000mAh non-removable battery. Once again using the phone continuously with everything running you get a great amount of time between charging, and once you need to charge the fast charging system is pretty awesome.
The Galaxy C9 Pro also gets a dual SIM that accepts Nano and Nano. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). It also gets sensors, which include compass magnetometer, finger print sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and gyroscope.
Overall, the Phone is fantastic for all kinds of use and it’s got the best features in its price range. If you want a big phone with a beautiful screen, long battery life, and a terrific camera, then the Galaxy C9 Note Pro would be a great choice.
