Facebook has banned “myPersonality” – a third party app that failed to agree to audit from the social media giant. Facebook believes that the app misused data of over 4 million users.

“Today we banned myPersonality — an app that was mainly active prior to 2012 — from Facebook for failing to agree to our request to audit and because it’s clear that they shared information with researchers as well as companies with only limited protections in place. As a result we will notify the roughly 4 million people who chose to share their Facebook information with myPersonality that it may have been misused,” Facebook said in a blog post.

Facebook launched its investigation of third party apps in March, after the social media giant got involved in the biggest ever controversy over the Cambridge Analytica scandal for its handling of personal data of over 87 million users.

Since than Facebook has also expanded its App Review programme and according to their new policy no information will be shared with apps if you haven’t used them in 90 days.

And to better protect your data, Facebook will no longer allow apps to ask for access to personal information such as religious or political views, relationship status and details, custom friends lists, education and work history, fitness activity, book reading activity, music listening activity, news reading, video watch activity, and games activity.

“We will continue to investigate apps and make the changes needed to our platform to ensure that we are doing all we can to protect people’s information,” added Facebook.
