Samsung to offer foldable smartphone tech to Apple: Report

South Korean giant Samsung has sent samples of foldable smartphone to two of its biggest competitors Apple and Google, the media reported. Samsung and Huawei already showcased their foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress last month.

Apple has also filed patents in the USPTO explaining the working of a foldable phone and its engineering. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has also asked CEO Tim Cook to unveil a foldable smartphone for its consumers.

‘The samples sent by Samsung measure 7.2 inches, just 0.1 inches smaller than the main panel on the Samsung Galaxy Fold,’ a report in the South Korea’s ETNews said.

While the report did not mention any other details, but said that Samsung is currently capable to manufacture approx. 2.4 million foldable displays in a year, which is expected to increase to 10 million per year.

Samsung already supplies screen technology to Apple, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Samsung is now offering the Cupertino-based iPhone maker its foldable technology. Currently, majority of the hardware components in Apple iPhones hardware are supplied by third parties.

Apple has been working on foldable tech for years but with the launch of Galaxy Fold, the company could be in more pressure to launch such a phone. According to the media reports, consumers have to wait till 2020 for an Apple foldable smartphone. The 2019 iPhones will still come with fixed screen panels.
