A lawsuit filed in the US court accuses Apple for lying about the about the screen sizes and pixel counts of the displays in its iPhone X series. The suit filed on Friday in the District Court of Northern California by two plaintiffs alleges that the iPhone maker was dishonest in the way that it marketed the iPhone X.
The lawsuit, as revealed by CNET, claims that despite Apple’s marketing campaign, the new iPhone X series is not “all screen” because of the notch. In addition, the two plaintiffs allege that Apple mislead users about the size of the screen because the measurements do not take into account the rounded corners of the device. The iPhone X screen is advertised as being 5.8 inches, but the plaintiffs claim that the screen is actually “only about 5.6875 inches.”
Another issue that the plaintiffs raise was of screen resolution. According to the suit, the iPhone X advertises a screen resolution of 2436×1125 pixels, containing three subpixels of red, green, and blue, however, the plaintiffs allege that the screen only has two subpixels per pixel, meaning there are fewer pixels than advertised.
“One of the most important factors in the value and price of a phone is its screen quality, the most important factor of which is screen resolution. For this reason, Defendant’s phones, including the Products, are advertised and marketed based on their screen resolution. These comparisons are misleading because the Products have false screen pixel counts that dramatically overrepresent the number of subpixels in the phones,” the lawsuits claim.
This is not the only lawsuit that Apple is currently involved in. Apple and Qualcomm, the two US tech giants are legally fighting a dispute over licensing fees that Qualcomm charges for use of technology that according to the chipmaker underpins all modern phone systems.
