With connected cars now a reality and the number of cars equipped with embedded connectivity is set to rise by 300 per cent, Aeris Mobility Platform (AMP) will act as a game changer for the global automotive industry which has been developed to meet the unique needs of enterprises who are moving from unconnected products to connected services, a top executive from global Internet of Things (IoT) solution provider Aeris has stressed.

“Leveraging AMP, enterprises and OEMs can deliver a cloud-agnostic and flexible, globally connected programme which offers a full suite of connected vehicle services that include safety and security, remote vehicle, driver behaviour, vehicle health, and other services,” Rishi Bhatnagar, President, Aeris Communication India, told Xite.

The technology will transform the way we commute, communicate and interact with products and services while we travel and will create a multi-billion-dollar opportunity for ecosystem players by 2022. AMP specifically addresses the requirements of the burgeoning Internet of Moving Things market segment with a robust service creation environment and a full suite of pre-built business services, including data analytics and monetisation.

According to market research firm Statista, revenue of India’s connected vehicles market will total $1,048 million in 2018. These numbers are expected to see an annual growth rate (CAGR 2018-2022) of 8.4 per cent resulting in a market volume of $1,449 million by 2022. Currently, the connected vehicles penetration rate is at 1.2 per cent in 2018 and expected to hit three per cent in 2022.

The Aeris mobility platform consists of a range of technology layers which are modular, which enables users to select what they want according to their personal preferences and even incorporate their own connectivity technology or carrier/operator of choice. Services include wireless connectivity; carrier management; call centre enablement; a device management platform; business intelligence/data analytics and monetization processes; global reach; program delivery; hosting; security; and customer management.

“By incorporating network technologies Aeris will make sure that a connected car isn’t limited in any sense and that OEMs will always have choices. Automotive OEMs are a key focus area for AMP and the architecture is built around micro-services, which enable a highly-customisable approach to each OEM’s requirements, giving them the ability to manage their program globally on a single platform while preserving the ability to deploy solutions that differ based on region, brand or model,” added Bhatnagar.

For example, Mitsubishi and Aeris have come together with Aeris Mobility Platform powering Mitsubishi Connect Vehicle Programme, which debuted in the all-new 2018 Eclipse Cross CUV. Mitsubishi Connect provides owners with an intuitive and convenient driving experience, offering key functionality in safety, security, and remote vehicle services that can be accessed in multiple ways: inside the vehicle, through the My Mitsubishi Connect mobile application or through the Mitsubishi vehicle owners’ portal.

Aeris is the brain behind this programme delivering a broad range of telematics services, including mobile applications, call centre services and wireless connectivity.

“For Aeris, the connected cars ecosystem represents a great opportunity to bring its global connected car technology to India. The stage is set right for the Aeris Mobility Platform (AMP), as the automotive companies and Indian government are ushering new technologies into various industry's including the automobile industry,” added Bhatnagar.
