Paytm today launched an 'Information and Help centre' on its app under its #IndiaFightsCorona section that will offer verified information from the government bodies and health authorities to its users. It also features important helpline numbers as well as a COVID-19 self-assessment scanning. The company also updated the app’s user interface for a streamlined payment experience.
COVID-19 Information Centre
The COVID-19 Information Centre has a self-assessment scanning system that is powered by Apollo 24/7 and is developed on the basis of guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Paytm notes that while this system is not as good as expert medical advice, it will help people understand if they have been potentially infected by the virus.
Aiming to contribute Rs 500 crore to PM CARES (Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund), Paytm is also collecting contributions for the fund on the Paytm app. It says that for every contribution or any other payment made on Paytm using the wallet, UPI, and Paytm Bank debit card, the company will contribute an extra up to Rs 10. The fund is exempted under the Income Tax Act, 1961 under Section 10 and 139 for return purposes.

Additionally, the company has also revamped its app UI with 'Stay at home Essential payments'. Paytm app now has more streamlined payment options such as mobile & DTH recharge, electricity, water, gas, credit card, and insurance premium on the home screen.
‘We have revamped the Paytm app so that people can easily spot the essential payments icon and do not have to step out of home & take a risk of getting infected. We have also introduced an Information & Help Centre on COVID-19 so that people do not fall prey to unsubstantiated information being circulated on social media or chat groups. With the help of our self-assessment tool, users can check their risk factor towards this virus and take the necessary precautions to remain safe,’ Amit Veer, Sr. Vice President - Paytm said in a statement.
