As smartphone privacy and security are key factors these days, the Tecno Camon i4 comes with advance AI led face recognition technology which provides quick Face Unlock under 0.3 sec.

Tecno, a mobile brand from Shenzen (China) based Transsion Holding recently launched camera centric Camon i4 smartphone in India. This is first triple rear camera smartphone under its Camon portfolio in India.

Camon i4 is Tecno’s cheapest smartphone in the country. The company has launched three variants 2GB +32GB variant is priced at Rs 9,599, 4GB+32GB is priced at Rs 10,599 and the 4GB+64GB costs Rs 11,999, respectively. Apart from Tecno, Transsion Holdings also holds Infinix and itel brands, and has also recently emerged as the fifth largest mobile handset player in the country.

Design and display

The Tecno Camon i4 features a glass design with a dot notch display. There is a 6.21-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of 88.6 per cent. The 2.5D glass finish back cover of phone looks nice and subtle. The device comes in midnight black, aqua blue, nebula black and champagne gold colours.

Overall, the smartphone has neat looks given the price. While the videos on YouTube and Netflix were pleasant to the eyes, but the choice of HD+ display was disappointing as most of the smartphones in this price band have shifted to full HD resolution such as ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1, Samsung Galaxy M20, etc.

And with gradient colour finishes now coming in, the back panel of Tecno Camon i4 reflects rainbow colours when the lights fall on it at a certain angle.

There is also a AI face unlock along with a dedicated fingerprint sensor at the back, which according to Tecno is oil resistant fingerprint sensor. The HD+ display good enough for your multimedia viewing and less-intense gaming.

Performance

The smartphone is powered by the 2.0 Ghz Helio A22 64Bit quad-core processor in the 2GB+32GB and 3GB+32GB storage variant. The 4GB+64GB variant is powered by the Helio P22 octa-core processor. Running your daily productivity tasks and multitasking between them is a breeze on the device. The phone runs HiOS 4.6 on top of Android 9 Pie and uses Artificial Intelligence to offer an enhanced navigation experience tailored to people's preferences and habits.

In addition, the smartphone is powered by 3,500mAh battery and comes with power management features. The HiOS 4.6 also optimises the battery life by prioritising the app you use most frequently. According the Tecno, the ‘Rocket Charge’ allows two hours of talk time within just 10 minutes of charging.

Camera

The Tecno Camon i4 is a camera powerhouse. The smartphone comes with a triple rear camera set-up consisting of a 13MP primary sensor with a f1.8 apertures, an 8MP sensor with a 120-degree ultra-wide lens and a 2MP bokeh sensor to capture subject and the background separately. Further, there is a 16MP AI front camera with 4-in-1 big pixel technology for selfies.

The rear camera is also supported by 8x digital zoom. The camera captures good images when there is bright daylight with decent amount of detail and noise, but majorly fails in low light images.

The 16MP front camera clicks well-focused selfies. Results with the Beauty mode is also nice.

Conclusion

The Camon i4 is a good addition to Tecno’s affordable ‘Made in India’ smartphone range with right mix of features and good performance. But, if you want a phone than can click great images in the night too, do check other options that will also offer both increased experience and specifications.
