Popular instant messaging app WhatsApp has stopped working on BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8.0 and older platforms.

According to a WhatsApp spokesperson, ‘above mentioned platforms do not offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future.’

Thus, if you are still using these outdated platforms, we recommend you to upgrade to a newer OS version or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ to continue using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp first announced that it will end supporting outdated mobile platforms in 2016, however, extended its deadline till June 30, 2017. This deadline was later updated to December 31, 2017.

WhatsApp is ending support for these platforms. If you are a user of below mentioned platforms, we recommend you to upgrade your devices.

The instant messaging platform has over 1.3 billion monthly active users who transfer 55 billion messages and one billion videos every day. The messaging service supports 60 languages globally, and over 4.5 billion photos are shared on the platform every day.
