Xiaomi has revolutionized the wireless charging technology by introducing Mi Air Charge, which allows the user to wirelessly charge devices from a distance, without the need of plugging any cable or even using a charging stand.

According to Xiaomi, the Mi Air Charge is a 'remote charging technology', which can charge devices from a distance simultaneously 'within a radius of several meters' even if something's in the way or while walking around.

The wireless transmitter itself looks fairly large, and it can charge multiple devices at the same time at 5W charging speeds. This has nothing to do with the current Qi wireless charging standard, as the supported smartphone needs to be outfitted with a “miniaturized antenna array with built-in ‘beacon antenna’ and ‘receiving antenna array’."

Further, the supported smartphone has 14 antennas to convert a millimeter wave signal that’s emitted by the charging pile. The signal is converted into electric energy through a rectifier circuit. Eventually, Xiaomi's Mi Air Charge would also be compaible with wearables, smartwatches, and so on.

Xiaomi has not revealed when the Mi Air Charge system will be available for purchase, or even if such technology would ever make it to production. However, it is clear that this is the future of wireless technology, even if it's just a concept right now.
