The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting from March 16 and will be offered in midnight black, titanium grey, coral blue and a new hue, lilac purple.

Both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ look similar to last year’s S8 and S8 Plus. But the new models come with significant upgrades such as a nicer camera, ergonomic fingerprint scanner placement, more colour options and iPhone X like AR Emojis.

The S9 is priced at Rs 57,900 and Rs 65,900, respectively for 64GB and 256GB variants. The S9+ costs Rs 64,900 and Rs 72,900 for the same storage options.

Let’s take a closer look at 7 best features in Galaxy S9 and S9+.

A refined Infinity display

Both 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 and 6.2-inch S9+ are some of biggest smartphones in the market and come with Super AMOLED displays with bigger 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a thicker Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Apple’s flagship devices – iPhone 8 Plus and the iconic iPhone X feature 5.8-inch display.

Super Slow-mo

The Galaxy S9’s Super Slow-mo feature is designed to allow users to capture stunning details of moments that occur in everyday life. The feature increases the camera’s shutter speed to 960 fps (frames per second) and is capable of recording video that’s four times slower than any other smartphones available currently.

Once a Super Slow-mo clip is recorded, users may choose to save it as a GIF, customise it with a favourite tune or display it as a wallpaper for their home or lock screen – something no other smartphone is capable of doing right now.

Dual Aperture

Combining an F2.4 aperture lens with an F1.5, the brightest currently available on a smartphone, the Galaxy S9’s advanced Dual Aperture camera adapts to its environment to allow users to snap great shots in any light.

The camera automatically adjusts to lighting conditions to allow just the right amount of light to let in.

AR Emoji

The Galaxy S9’s new AR Emoji feature allows users to create their own realistic or cartoon-like emojis using the device’s facial recognition technology. From a single selfie, the device analyses your 2D image by mapping more than 100 distinct facial features and then applies that image to a 3D model to generate an avatar that looks just like you and can imitate your facial expressions.

AR Emoji are fully customisable. They can easily be shared with others and used as a wallpaper for the user’s home or lock screen.

Instant insight into your surroundings

Samsung’s intelligent voice assistant platform, Bixby, is deeply integrated into the Galaxy S9’s camera. It utilises augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide users with a wide range of helpful, real-time information about the world around them.

When the user points their camera at an object, Bixby recognises what it’s looking at and instantly presents information related to that object overlaid on top of the image.

Dual cameras

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ features dual camera set up comprising of a pair of 12MP cameras – an F1.5 wide-angle lens with Super Speed Dual Pixel image sensor and an F2.4 telephoto lens – as well as dual optical image stabilisation (OIS).

The camera’s Live Focus and Background Blur now gives more creative control over photos. The former allows to adjust the depth of field at any point in the photo-taking process, while the latter lets users play with the focus of their photo’s background by applying shapes such as hearts, stars and more.

Enhanced biometric authentication

The Galaxy S9’s Intelligent Scan feature combines the collective strength of Samsung’s iris scanning, facial recognition and intelligent technologies to create a seamless authentication solution that offers users secure access to their device in virtually any environment.

In addition, the phone’s fingerprint scanner, which is now conveniently located beneath the camera on the back of the device, supports a new Dedicated Fingerprint function. This function allows users to designate a fingerprint to provide instant access to their Secure Folder.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting from March 16 and will be offered in midnight black, titanium grey, coral blue and a new hue, lilac purple.
