Comio, a part of China’s Topwise Communication, is set to launch a flagship smartphone in the third week of May that will come with 'Face Unlock' feature, full HD screen, dual camera, bokeh mode.
Priced under Rs 10,000, the smartphone will be launched Pan-India and aims to be a game-changer in the mid-segment smartphone category, the company said.
Targeting mid-level smartphone market (priced between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 12,000), Comio launched India operations in August of 2017 and has till now sold over two lakh units and further plans to strengthen its position with 800 distributors working with 30,000 retailers.
In November 2017, Comio announced to invest Rs. 250 crores in marketing activities to build brand and also announced an additional investment of Rs. 150 crores to develop Research and Development (R&D) centre by March 2018.
‘The R&D centre will initially have a team of 20 people who will work on bringing in features needed for the Indian market,’ said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, CEO and Director, Comio India.
The company has two other R&D centres in Hong Kong and China, which has about 1,000 people, added Kalirona. Currently, Comio manufactures locally in the country in partnership with Hipad and V-Sun.
Last year, in line with Indian government’s 'Made in India' initiative, Comio launched three new smartphones in the country. The Comio C1, C2 and S1 devices are priced at Rs. 5,999, Rs. 7,199 and Rs. 8,999, respectively.
The COMIO C1 features a 5-inch HD IPS display, an 8MP autofocus rear camera with flash and a 5MP selfie camera. The COMIO C2 sports a 5-inch HD IPS Display, an 8MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera with flash. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.
The COMIO S1 features a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera. Additionally, the smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch HD IPS display, a front fingerprint sensor and 2GB RAM and houses 2,700mAh battery.
