American luxury watchmaker Fossil today announced the Gen 5 touchscreen smartwatch that comes with smart battery modes, enhanced speaker functionality and has double the storage of the previous generation.
The Gen 5 smartwatch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform and runs on Wear OS by Google. The smartwatch comes in six colours in combinations of black, smoke, and rose gold. Priced at Rs 22,995, the Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch is available for purchase at www.fossil.in, Fossil retail stores and other partner channels across India.
The Gen 5 offers four battery life pre-sets, putting the user in control and allowing for extended battery life. The extended battery mode allows users to extend the battery life to multiple days on a single charge while still enjoying essential features like notifications and heart rate. The daily mode allows users to experience the watch while most of the features are enabled such as always-on screen. The custom mode allows users to easily manage battery optimisation settings themselves, all in one place. Lastly, the time-only mode gives users additional hours when the watch has a low battery or if they choose to use the smartwatch to only tell time.
The Gen 5 comes with a swimproof speaker, in addition to the existing microphone. With the addition of speaker, users would be able to take calls on their smartwatch. Users can perform these functions with the speaker -- sound alerts for notifications, alarms, timers, etc.; hear responses from the Google Assistant; Google Translate speak out translation; play third party music direct from watch; answer tethered calls directly from watch.
Tiles is a new update from Wear OS by Google that provided a quick way to view information at a glance and perform actions. Swipe left and Tiles will provide easy access to quick actions and information that was previously hidden in the app menu.
With Tiles, you can check your progress towards your fitness goals, start a workout, know about weather, check your heart rate, follow the latest breaking headlines, and even quickly set a timer.
Additionally, the Gen 5 smartwatch now has 8GB of storage – giving users even more space to download apps and media. The Gen 5 comes with pre-installed apps including Spotify, Noonlight, Nike Run Club and Cardiogram.
Cardiogram analyses your heart rate and then displays it into interactive charts that can be tagged with activities from your day, helping you identify what could contribute to spikes and dips in your heart rate. For instance, users can monitor how your heart rate changes during a stressful meeting, exercise, or during sleep.
