Ever wonder how far your hometown is from the North Pole? Or maybe, you simply want to measure the length of that hike in Himalayas you just finished. Well, it seems like Google is now finally able to answer those queries.
The company has launched a Measure Tool for Google Earth that has the ability to measure distance and areas. The Measure Tool is currently available on Chrome and Android and will be coming to iOS.
The Measure Tool is another effort from the search giant to allow educators, scientists and travelers to explore the world from home. Last year, Google Earth started to let users explore satellite imagery and photographs of the planet with tools like interactive stories, destination discovery and 3D navigation.
The measurement feature gives users a more accurate sense of location and space. Users can use the tool to check out the perimeter and area of a stadium, a city, a region and more. You can also measure how far you've traveled in miles or kilometres, whether it's a mountain hike in your hometown or backpacking through Norway.
