Smiles of 2017 highlights the times a person has captured a smiling moment in the past one year. Last year also, Google introduced Smiles of 2016 to some users.

Google’s proprietary photo sharing and storage service Google Photos is showing short video collages dubbed as “Smiles of 2017” that displays smiling pictures of the users backed up by a music in the background.

“With Google Photos, you can even make sure that every one of those happy moments is saved and backed up online. And now you can enjoy looking back at all those happy moments over the last year in a new ‘Smiles of 2017’ movie,” said Google in a blog post.

Smiles of 2017 highlights the times a person has captured a smiling moment in the past one year. Last year also, Google introduced Smiles of 2016 to some users.

The video collage is similar to the company’s existing AI-based collages as seen in Pixel 2 set of devices that automatically clubs your top photos. Google’s standard music runs in the background while photos are showcased in a slideshow format. The duration of these videos is approximately 40 to 60 seconds.

And while Google seems to have rolled out Smiles of 2017, it might not be available for all at the moment. This is again, something that seems to be quite common with Google Photos with the app showing select movies/collages to select users. To check whether the feature is available or not users need to open the Google Photos app and tap the “Assistant” icon at the bottom of their screen.

Google announced Photos service back in May 2015. The app automatically backs up and organises your photos and videos allowing you to find and share them faster.
