Honor witnessed 165% growth in CY 2017: Counterpoint

While Huawei focused on wearable devices, it was Honor that played an instrumental role in brand building.

According to Counterpoint Research, Huawei’s e-brand Honor has emerged as one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in India witnessing 165 per cent growth in the calendar year (CY) 2017.

In its Q4 2017 report, Counterpoint has said that “with innovative and best in segment products like Honor 7X, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite, Honor has shown momentum and growth in the Indian market and has produced some of the best smartphone devices for Indian consumers in 2017.’

While Huawei focused on wearable devices, it was Honor that played an instrumental role in brand building. The budget bestseller smartphone, Honor 7X was pivotal in the growth of the brand in the fourth quarter of 2017.

‘Honor alone registered an unprecedented growth of 300 per cent, owing to successful smartphone launches in Q4. Products like Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9i have redefined the magic of dual camera photography, whereas product like Honor View 10 has been integral in delivering the true AI experience available in a smartphone,’ P Sanjeev, Vice-President, Sales, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said in a statement.

Honor is the first smartphone brand in India to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven smartphone, Honor View 10, at very pocket friendly cost.

Overall, Indian mobile phone shipments crossed 300 million units for the first time ever, with smartphones capturing almost 44 per cent of the total volumes in the calendar year (CY) 2017.

Chinese brands’ performance remained strong throughout the year and captured 54 per cent smartphone market share in CY 2017 up from 34 per cent during CY 2016.
