After a long waiting period, Instagram users in India have finally got ‘Instagram Music’ feature that will let them add music clips as well as the lyrics of the clip in their Stories. The feature, which was available in select markets since its release in March 2018, is rolled-out to both Android and iOS platforms. Its parent company Facebook Inc had tied-up with the Indian music labels like T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films, for licensing their music to enable the feature.
‘Facebook and music share something special -- they both bring people together and enable personal expression. And that's why music is important for us. With India's strong music ecosystem, we're thrilled to open up the ability for people in the country to include music in the moments they share on our platforms,’ said Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships, Facebook India.
Swipe right from the ‘Home’ screen in your profile. In both Android and iOS, you will now see a ‘Music’ option in the list of features on the bottom of the screen. As soon as you go to ‘Music’, a list of songs will pop-up with an option to play and listen to the clip. Users also have an option to choose songs on the basis of popularity, mood or genres. In case you want to add music to a video or photo, you can use the ‘Music’ from the sticker section. If you have your Facebook and Instagram accounts linked together, you can share a Story with music on both the platforms.
While a majority of people in India have ‘Liked’ the feature, a section is trolling the use of the feature. Check out some of the tweets below:
