The Intex IT-16S BT is loaded with features, flashy ambient lights and is available at an affordable price tag. Is this the portable speaker you have always been waiting for? Let’s find out.

Gone are the days when you would end up getting tangled up in your audio speakers’ wires. At this day and age, portal speakers are the way forward and every gadget manufacturing company wants a slice of this popular segment. Indian firm, Intex, recently launched a multimedia speaker at an affordable price – Rs. 5,800, but checkout popular online shopping portals as they offer a better deal than the stated MRP. But the million Dollar question is, does affordability automatically mean it’s worth buying, or should one save a bit more money and go for a tried and tested brand? Well, we find out.

At first impressions, the 1.5-inch cylindrical speaker is solidly built and the matte all-black finish isn’t too bad either. Though it looks chunky, it’s weighs merely 720 grams, making it light and easy to carry it around. One side of the speaker houses the power on-off button along with auxiliary socket, DC 5 Volt charging port, LED battery charge indicator and an SD memory card slot. At the back, there are connectivity mode and control buttons.

You slide on the power button and the device lets you know it is ready to be paired with a device. It took not take more than a couple of seconds to sync my smart phone to the Intex speaker via Bluetooth 4.0. With a power output of 4 Watts X 2, it is fairly loud and audible. But, what this portable speaker lacks is the thump in its bass, which results in high treble, shrill sound. It basically lacks the balance that we are used from other speakers.

Intex, on the other hand, have managed to cleverly add features that not only look good but are practical and functional. For starters, it has an in-built mic, which allows you to receive calls. The speaker also has five different multi-colour light patterns that can be adjusted according to your mood and as mentioned earlier, it comes with an SD memory card slot. This is a very important feature as this lets you conserve your phone’s battery and play your favourite tracks from a memory card. Speaking of battery, the Intex speaker comes with an in-built 2,200mAh capacity, which lets you play music for 4-5 hours at a stretch.

The Intex IT-16S BT is not an earth shattering product, but with some many additional features like memory card slot, wireless calling and multiple ambient light patterns, it is a very affordable package. But as its predominant function is to ensure good sound quality, it didn’t manage to convert us into a true believer due to the lack of bass. Buy it only if you don’t want spend too much on a portable speaker.
