We review the latest entry in the world of dual SIM mobile phones – the Karbonn MACHONE Titanium S310 – and found that the bundle you get for this kind of money is very impressive and cost efficient.
If you have been following the 2015 Cricket World Cup as we have, you won’t have to search the internet to know which phone this is. Thanks to the number of times its advertisement flashes between the overs, it’s impossible not to remember it. The S310 is an entry level dual SIM smartphone from Karbonn Mobiles which has a design that dual SIM phones are not known for. So, does this make it a good buy at Rs. 6,990?
One look at the S310 and you know that it looks anything but cheap unlike its main competitors. It’s not small, thanks to its 4.7-inch display with its 1280×720 resolution, but fits your hand without making your fingers do some stretching. In fact, from a distance, the phone looks similar to an iPhone 6. The specifications of the phone are impressive – a 1.3GHz Quad Core processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP and 5MP cameras at the rear and front respectively, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM Radio. The battery is of 1800MAh capacity but drains out quite quickly. Just a few minutes of Wi-Fi usage and you see a sizeable portion missing from the battery icon. The phone has 8GB of internal storage space and an extra 32GB can be added.
Interestingly, both the cameras in this phone have an LED flash light for usability in low light. The camera quality is very basic though. The rear camera, which is something Karbonn has been chest thumping about in its ads, is very basic and the noise levels are high once you zoom in to take a picture. The front camera is also a letdown. Karbonn claims 480p video quality from the front camera, but I fail to understand how they reached this number as the recorded footage simply doesn’t reflect that level of quality.
Apart from the issues with the camera and battery life, performance is otherwise quite acceptable. The apps work fine and without any slag. Unless you are trying to play a multiplayer high-end game over Wi-Fi, this phone won’t disappoint you. So, other than the camera, there is not much that needs to be improved in this phone, but one look at the competition, which consists of players like Micromax and Xiaomi, and you know that the pricing should have been lower to make the phone a more attractive proposition.
