Professional networking site LinkedIn today released Android app for LinkedIn Lite, a toned-down version of its original LinkedIn mobile app.

The app is live now in India, and the company plans to expand it to over 60 more markets in the coming weeks and months.

The LinkedIn Lite app is designed for markets that have slow internet speeds. The Lite app offers a seamless and intuitive experience of LinkedIn to users on Android's operating system, that accounts for 97 per cent of India's smartphone market.

LinkedIn has more than 42 million members in India.

The new LinkedIn Lite app is less than 1 MB in size. It can help you find jobs, make useful connections and get professional news even if your phone has limited storage capacity and slower internet conditions. The app also lets you search for people, alumni, seniors, jobs and companies, make useful connections with people who can help you find your dream job and get the latest industry news and updates that can help you stay informed, interviews preparation, etc.

Built to run smoothly and offer faster access even on lower end smartphones, the app loads extremely fast - in under five seconds, even on 2G network.

LinkedIn Lite was first launched as a mobile web site in September last year, as part of a suite of new services tailored specifically for India, one of LinkedIn’s biggest emerging markets.

"Regardless of their device or location, we hope to level the playing field for all LinkedIn members so they can get closer to their dream jobs, grow their networks and become more successful,” said Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn's Country Manager for India, in a statement.
