The new smartphone will fall under the Edge branding. The Edge Plus smartphone was earlier scheduled to launch at the cancelled Mobile World Congress. The smartphone will come with Snapdragon 865.

Lenovo-owned Motorola will launch its new flagship smartphone on April 22, the company announced on its official Twitter account. The event is said to be an online event given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Motorola is expected to announce two devices under new Edge branding.

The Edge Plus smartphone has been extensively leaked on the internet, because the phone was expected to be launched back in February at the cancelled Mobile World Congress. The Edge Plus is a big launch for Motorola given that the company in the past couple of years has focused largely on midrange, affordable devices rather than the flagship smartphones.

Motorola Edge Plus specs

The Edge Plus smartphone is expected come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery. Along with a 108MP sensor at the back, the Edge Plus would also have two more cameras – a 16MP wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. A few images of the device leaked last week reveal a hole-punch front-facing camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A cheap Edge model is also expected to launch, which would have less powerful hardware than the Plus model and will come with a 64MP main sensor.

The smartphone will come with a 90Hz display and would also give users to choose between the standard 60Hz refresh rate or a 90Hz or an ‘auto’ refresh rate mode. The auto mode would use AI to optimally select the refresh rate depending on the app being run on the device. The hole-punch cut-out will house a 25MP selfie camera.

The Edge Plus will have a 6.67-inches curved ‘waterfall’ display with a resolution of 2340×1080.
