The Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) Slim, the slimmer version of the PlayStation 5, goes on sale in India today (April 5), starting at 10 AM IST. Interestingly, the new Sony PS5 Slim can be bought in a matter of just 10 minutes, given the fact that Sony has partnered with Blinkit for the same. The latter says the customers in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru can now get the delivery of the new PlayStation 5 Slim editions and controllers in 10 minutes. Price-wise, the PlayStation 5 (slim) costs Rs 54,990, whereas the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (slim) asks for Rs 44,990. In addition to the gaming console, Blinkit is also retailing the Sony DualSense wireless controller worth Rs 5,899. The controller features a two-point capacitive touchpad with a click mechanism, a six-axis motion sensing system, and a built-in microphone.
First launched in the United States, the PS5 Slim is the mid-cycle update of Sony's original PlayStation 5. In comparison to the regular version, the PS5 Slim's dimensions see a 30 per cent decrease. Despite its small size, the PS5 Slim offers 1TB of internal storage, an increase from 825GB found in existing models. Moreover, you can expand this internal storage through external SSDs.
The gaming console offers the same RAM, graphics, and processor capabilities. Speaking of the processor, the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim gets an x86-64-AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU with eight cores and 16 threads. The CPU comes along with an AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine, and supports Ray Tracing Acceleration and variable frequency up to 2.23GHz. The console's Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) can handle up to 10.3 trillion floating-point operations per second and deliver high-fidelity visuals.
Connectivity-wise, the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim has two USB Type-C ports at the front. Meanwhile, the original PlayStation 5 has a USB-C and one USB-A port. Other than Blinkit, the new gaming console can be purchased through Sony's ShopatSC website, Amazon, Flipkart, and other retailers.
Sony is reportedly developing a more advanced version of the PlayStation 5. Dubbed the PS5 Pro, it is expected to be unveiled in the United States in the last quarter of the year. While not much is known, the new variant will likely come with a GPU that can perform certain tasks three times faster than the existing PS5 models.
