Known for bringing top of the line specs without breaking the wallet, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has recently announced its latest flagship OnePlus 5 in the Indian market that comes with dual rear camera set up.

OnePlus devices are touted as clone to Apple devices and this year’s OnePlus 5 is no different when it comes to aesthetics. The device goes head to head with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

They might look similar, but are two different devices. Here is how they stand against each other.

OnePlus 5 vs iPhone 7 price and storage

OnePlus 5 is launched in two variants -- 6GB RAM/64GB ROM and 8GB RAM/128GB ROM -- and will be available for Rs 32,999 and Rs 37,999, respectively.

iPhone 7 comes in three variants -- 32GB for Rs 60,000, 128GB for Rs 70,000 and 256GB for Rs 80,000.

iPhone 7 Plus too comes in three variants -- 32GB for Rs 72,000, 128GB for Rs 82,000 and 256GB for Rs 92,000.

OnePlus 5 vs iPhone 7 display

In terms of display, having 5.5-inch full-HD optic AMOLED screen OnePlus 5 takes iPhone 7 Plus head on as iPhone 7 comes in 4.7-inch display.

Using AMOLED display with 401 pixels per inch, OnePlus 5 has sharper and vibrant display than iPhone 7 that uses Retina HD display with 326 pixels per inch.

OnePlus 5 vs iPhone 7 design

Taking design cues from iPhone 7, OnePlus 5 looks similar featuring slim unibody metal design with antenna bands curving around the edges.

The fingerprint sensor has been moved to the front of the device and integrated onto the Home button. The only difference users will see is in the Home button design, with Apple using a circle and OnePlus sporting an oblong shaped button.

Other than this, OnePlus 5 that weighs 153 grams is slightly on the heavier side than iPhone 7 that comes in at 138 grams which can be justified as OnePlus 5 has a large battery.

OnePlus 5 vs iPhone 7 processing power

OnePlus has always integrated top end processors to give users a seamless experience. This time the company has loaded OnePlus 5 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired up with 8GB of RAM.

Apple iPhone 7 uses A10 fusion chip with 64-bit architecture embedded with M10 motion coprocessor along with 2GB of RAM.

In real life usage, an average user won’t need 8GB RAM or even 6GB RAM devices and for them it will just be a number to compare other devices with.

In general, Apple’s devices have less RAM than many of the Android flagships, however still rank high when it comes to performance.

And while iPhone 7 runs on iOS 10, OnePlus 5 runs on Android 7 Nougat, thus have different user interfaces and app stores.

 OnePlus 5 vs iPhone camera

Similar to iPhone 7 Plus, OnePlus 5 has dual camera set up on the back.

OnePlus 5 has a main 16MP camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 20MP camera with f/1.6 aperture. It packs 16MP camera with f/2.0 aperture at the front.

iPhone 7 Plus sports 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras with f/1.8 aperture for wide angle and f/2.8 aperture for telephoto lens.

Thus, as per the specs, OnePlus 5 with large aperture can bring in a lot more light into the camera sensor than iPhone 7 Plus.

Also, both the devices can record video in 4K.

OnePlus 5 vs iPhone 7 battery

OnePlus 5 has a 3,300mAh one and the iPhone 7 houses 1,960mAh battery. In real life usage, OnePlus will last longer than iPhone 7 on moderate use including web browsing, watching videos and using social networking sites.

Conclusion

If you are in the market for larger screen phone without compromising much on performance, then OnePlus 5 is the one for you. On the other hand, if you want a palm friendly device with a flawless performance than iPhone 7 is the best contender.  Price is one area where OnePlus 5 has advantage to its competition.

Apple’s next generation iPhone 8 scheduled to launch later this year and will supersede iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus being one of the most popular Chinese brand among consumers still can’t compete with Apple in terms of sale and user experience.
