OnePlus is famous for launching smartphones with flagship internals at a very competitive price, but the company has also been criticised in the past for not offering wireless charging support in its smartphones. The lack of this tech often makes reviewers reluctant to put its phones on the same level as other flagship models, and this can be problematic for the company, especially at a time when OnePlus handsets have become better and are getting increasingly popular each year. But now it seems that all this is about to change. If we are to believe the claims made by online portal mobilescout.com, OnePlus may soon join the ranks of OEMs that offer wireless charging feature in their flagship smartphones.

As per the screenshot shared by the publication, the Chinese company has joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), the regulator that handles the Qi wireless charging used by smartphones globally. This could mean that OnePlus, perhaps, is working on introducing wireless charging support to its next smartphone series. The portal says that the company may bring wireless charging in the feature-laden OnePlus 8 Pro.

The news comes as a surprise because OnePlus CEO Pete Lau had rejected the idea of introducing wireless charging by saying that even 10W fast wireless charging was too slow. He had added that the current wireless charging standards don't offer the fast charging experience of OnePlus’s Warp Charge technology. For those who don’t know, OnePlus claims that its Warp Charge tech can charge the phone at 23 per cent faster speeds as compared to the technology offered in its previous devices.

In November, tipster Max J. claimed that the OnePlus 8 may sport a 120Hz display. Two months later, the company confirmed that its smartphone would feature a 2K 120Hz display. According to the company, the new screen uses MEMC technology for smooth video playback and a QHD+ resolution.
