US-based digital cinema cameras company RED has unveiled a new bizzare smartphone “Hydrogen One” that comes with holographic display.
According to the company the shipping of the phone will start in early 2018, and is currently available for pre-order on RED’s website. It starts at $1,195 for the aluminum version and $1,595 for titanium variant.
Hydrogen One features 5.7-inch display and utilises nanotechnology to seamlessly switch between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content, and interactive games.
The smartphone will use an algorithm to convert stereo sound into “multi-dimensional audio” to add to the immersive experience — or, as per the RED to “ASSAULT YOUR SENSES.”
Similar to Moto Z line-up, Hydrogen One will also allow for the modular attachments with a dedicated focus on image capture. The smartphone will integrate professional RED camera programme working together with Scarlet, EPIC and Weapon as a user interface and monitor.
Hyrdogen One also incorporates a new high speed data bus to enable a comprehensive and modular component system, which according to RED will include future attachments for shooting higher quality motion and still images as well as a Hydrogen format holographic images.
The device will come with USB Type-C port, a micro-SD slot for expandable storage, and yes — it will also feature a headphone jack.
According to RED, design and specs, and delivery dates can change anytime for any reason. The company also said that after this initial release RED will NOT be able to fill all orders on time due to display production limitations.
RED will NOT guarantee these prices at the time of release.” The modular attachments won’t be available at launch, either.
