The patent shows a clamshell foldable phone with horizontal rotating camera setup. This means, the phone could be folded vertically and the upper part of the smartphone could rotate horizontally.

After Samsung (Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip) and Motorola (Razr), Xiaomi, as it seems, is ready to jump onto the next big smartphone trend for folding smartphones. In a new patent submitted by Xiaomi today, we see sketches of a folding smartphone with a form factor that's rather intriguing.

As per the sketches, the phone could be folded vertically and the upper part of the smartphone could rotate horizontally. The main highlight of this design is a bar on the upper half of the smartphone that houses an array of cameras, which can be rotated physically to turn the rear-facing cameras towards the front for capturing selfies, or vice versa. The patent images below are are renders created by Let’s Go Digital, based on the actual drawings published in the CNIPA filing.

Moreover, the upper half of the device houses the power and volume keys on the right side, whereas the speaker grille resides just below the part that can be horizontally rotated. Now, since Xiaomi has filed a patent doesn't necessarily mean the company will ever produce and sell such a device. However, it would be nice to see a smartphone like this in the future.
