Xiaomi Redmi 5A with 3,000mAh battery launched in India

Aiming to further increase presence in sub-Rs 5,000 price segment, Xiaomi today launched Redmi 5A smartphone that comes with a metallic matte finish and features a dedicated micro-SD card slot for storage expansion.

The smartphone will come in two variants -- 2GB RAM + 16GB storage that is priced at Rs 4,999 for the first five million units, post which it will be available for Rs 5,999, and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant which is priced at Rs 6,999.

Successor to Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A houses 3,000mAh battery that the company claims offers up to eight days of standby time. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor and comes with a 2+1 card slot that supports simultaneous use of two 4G nano SIM cards and a micro-SD card up to 128GB.  

Redmi 5A comes equipped with a 13MP rear camera with phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) for fast focusing and an f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone phone will be available in three colours --dark grey, gold and rose gold.

Redmi 5A will be available from December 7, starting from 12 p.m. onwards, across Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores, followed by offline retailers including Mi Preferred Partners in the coming weeks.

According to IDC, Xiaomi leads the smartphone market in India with an overall market share of 23.5 per cent and shipping 9.2 million in the third quarter of 2017. Xiaomi is also the fastest growing smartphone brand in India with a growth rate of nearly 300 percent year-on-year.
