Just a couple of days after OnePlus announced to bring the OnePlus 8 series of smartphones with 5G wireless technology, the Chinese tech giant has said it will invest $30 million in the development of 5G.
‘5G is a top priority in our product strategy,” OnePlus cofounder and CEO Pete Lau said in a press release. We should be among the first smartphone manufacturers to have 5G support in a full product lineup. We plan to further develop application scenarios based on the daily usage habits of users, such as cloud gaming, cloud videos, and cloud storage services,’ said Pete Lau, CEO, OnePlus.

OnePlus also teased a 5G prototype device at MWC in 2019 before launching two premium devices — the OnePlus 7T Pro and a special McLaren edition OnePlus phone. Last year, OnePlus introduced its first 5G phone – the OnePlus 7 Pro in Europe and then in the US. In 2020, the company will launch the OnePlus 8 series of smartphone that will comprise of the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro – both of them will come with 5G. While a few nations have already adopted 5G, the technology is yet to be seen in developing countries like India.
The OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro will also cost a bit higher than the average price range in which the company currently sells its handsets, Lau has said.
The OnePlus 8 is expected to come with a 2K 120Hz display and will use MEMC technology for smooth video playback and a QHD+ resolution.
