Vivo has launched the much-awaited NEX 3 smartphone with a number of smartphone-first technologies. The Vivo NEX 3 is the first phone to sport a WaterFall FullView Display and Touch Sense, and the first non-gaming 5G handset to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform under the hood. It is safe to say that the phone has laid the foundation of features that are likely to become mainstream next year. For the unaware, Vivo NEX was the first phone to sport a pop-up selfie camera to be available commercially.

Vivo NEX 3 specifications

As mentioned, the Vivo NEX 3 sports a WaterFall FullView Display, that is, the display is curved to such an extent that it leaves no space for buttons on either side. To solve this problem, Vivo has included Touch Sense technology, which we have already seen in another Vivo smartphone called Vivo Apex. This technology uses the sides of the display for virtual buttons and respond to the pressure applied to them. The handset has a 6.89-inches Super AMOLED with 1080p resolution and offers 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor and a pop-up front-facing camera.

Under the hood, the phone comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, which is basically an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 855. It comes equipped with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB onboard storage. The phone gets its 5G capabilities via Qualcomm’s X50 modem, and it has a vapour cooling system to keep the temperature of the phone under check. Vivo NEX 3 houses a 4,500 mAh battery with 44W fast-charging support.

When it comes to the cameras, the phone sports a triple camera setup on the back with a 64MP primary sensor. This 64MP sensor is Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor that smartphone makers are working to introduce in their upcoming devices. The other two cameras have 13MP sensors coupled with ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. The cameras are placed in a circular module that Vivo calls the 'Lunar Ring.' On the front is a 16MP selfie camera and an LED flash which are housed in the pop-up module.
