WWDC 2024 iPadOS 18: The countdown has begun for WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2024, where Apple will showcase updates across its operating systems, including iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. The biggest update could be in the form of the company's new AI system marketed as 'Apple Intelligence', which will reportedly use large language models to offer features such as text summaries, auto-reply suggestions, custom emoji characters, enhanced photo editing, and voice memo transcriptions. Moreover, voice assistant Siri may see improvements based on large language models. However, they are unlikely to arrive until next year.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's AI features will be powered by its own technology and tools from OpenAI with which Apple has reportedly partnered to integrate ChatGPT into Apple's ecosystem. The Apple Intelligence suite of features will likely be backed by on-device processing or cloud-based computing, depending on the task at hand.

Along with these, iPadOS 18 is expected to come with software upgrades as well. These include support for Rich Communication Services (RCS), offering end-to-end encryption and improved media sharing. Plus, you might get to see Apple bring along text-based emoji suggestions, a non-grip app arrangement system, a voice-recording tool in Notes, custom routes and topography in Maps, improved web search, and customisation options for home screen icons.
Similar to Spotify, Apple Music may get an OpenAI-powered tool for creating auto-generated playlists, while apps like Mail, Fitness and Health are expected to be updated. Moreover, the built-in Calculator app resembling the iPhone version could be included in iPadOS 18.

This is going to be the 35th annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which is scheduled to take place from June 10 to June 14 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, USA. The event will kick off with a keynote event at 10:30 p.m. (IST), unveiling the next versions of updates across software platforms. There could be a few hardware announcements too.
