Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy Fold foldable phone at a price of Rs 1,64,999 in India. After this launch, India will now be counted among a handful of countries, like the US and South Korea, where the device is now available for purchase. The phone was originally unveiled at MWC 2019, however, the initial devices were plagued with manufacturing issues. A redesigned phone was then launched in September. The phone has two displays and a total of six cameras.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is priced at Rs 1,64,999 for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant. It will be available for pre-booking from October 4 in Cosmos Black colour, and shipments will begin from October 20. Those who are interested in purchasing the phone can pre-book it online through the Samsung eShop and offline in 35 cities across select 315 outlets, including the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru.
Further, the phone includes the Galaxy Fold Premier Service with one-on-one assistance with a Fold Concierge and one-year accidental damage protection. The company is also offering one-time free screen replacement.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold sports two displays. The first is at the front and the second is a foldable panel. The front display has an HD+ 4.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with 840x1960 pixels resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. The foldable one is a QXGA+ 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Dynamic AMOLED panel that has 1536x2152 pixels resolution with 4.2:3 aspect ratio. To put it in perspective, the larger display folds inwards like a book and the user is greeted with the smaller display on the outside/cover.
As mentioned, the phone has a total of six cameras: a triple rear camera setup, two cameras at the front (unfolded state), and a single selfie shooter on the cover. The triple camera setup has a 16MP primary sensor with an ultra-wide f/2.2 lens, a 12MP secondary sensor with Dual Pixel AF lens that supports OIS and f/1.5 to f/2.4 variable aperture. The third is a 12MP telephoto f/2.4 lens that enables 2X optical zoom and comes with PDAF and OIS. The front-facing dual camera setup (in unfolded state) is equipped with a 10MP primary sensor with an f/2.2 lens, and an 8MP secondary RGB depth sensor with an f/1.9 lens. The lone camera on the cover has a 10MP sensor with an f/2.2 lens.
The Galaxy Fold runs One UI skin which is baked on top of Android 9 Pie, and comes with stereo speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. The Galaxy Fold draws power from a dual battery that has a total capacity of 4,380mAh. The phone supports wireless charging, and comes with Wireless PowerShare feature to enable reverse charging.
